Heating Oil Contract and Pricing FAQs – Everything You Need to Know
At Jamie Oil Inc., we believe in keeping our customers informed and confident when choosing their heating oil options. Below, you’ll find answers to the most frequently asked questions about our
fixed-price programs,
automatic delivery, and
billing policies—all designed to help you make smarter, stress-free decisions about your home heating.
General Contract Information
Is It Really a Contract?
Yes. We agree to supply a specific number of gallons to a specific location at a predetermined price for a limited period of time, with a beginning date, expiration date, and specific payment terms.
It is a formal agreement between Jamie Oil and the customer. Both oil dealers and consumers are legally bound to fulfill their obligations, and breaching the contract could result in penalties or fines under U.S. law.
Customers must accept delivery and pay for the oil as outlined in the contract terms.
Are Fixed-Price Programs Always a Good Deal for the Customer?
No, not always. It’s unrealistic to expect your locked-in rate to be lower than the daily rate every day of your contract.
These programs are designed to provide stability and predictability, not necessarily to guarantee the lowest possible price at all times.
Delivery and Pricing Details
What Happens When the Contract Expires?
Your account will stay on automatic delivery unless you request a change. Once the locked-in rate expires, we’ll continue delivering fuel at our prevailing daily rate until a new agreement is signed.
What Happens if I Run Out of Fixed-Price Gallons Before the Contract Ends?
After all fixed-price gallons have been delivered, your account remains on automatic delivery, and additional oil deliveries will be billed at the current daily rate.
Customers can choose how many gallons to lock in, but automatic delivery continues until the contract ends.
To stop automatic deliveries after your contract expires, please send a written notice or email.
Last Year, My Neighbor Had a Lower Lock-In Rate Than I Had. Why?
Prices fluctuate constantly—sometimes by 8 to 10 cents per gallon within just 30 minutes.
A customer who signs a contract in the morning may get a different rate than one who signs later that same day.
Each price program is unique to the moment it’s locked in.
Why Should I Consider a Price Program?
If you want peace of mind and protection from unpredictable oil price increases, a fixed or capped price program can provide stability through the winter months.
These programs are perfect for homeowners who prefer predictable costs over market volatility.
Billing and Payment Questions
What happens if I have a credit balance on my account when the contract expires?
That money is yours. You may request a refund (after all service and oil bills are paid) or keep it as a credit on your account.
Future oil deliveries will automatically draw from this credit balance at the current daily rate until a new price agreement is signed.
What Does “The Programs Have Limited Availability” Mean?
It means Jamie Oil may adjust or withdraw certain fixed-price programs without notice, based on market conditions.
Once you’ve signed a contract, we’ll honor it in full—but keep in mind that oil prices can change dramatically in minutes.
For example, during the 1990 Kuwait invasion, prices rose $0.30 per gallon in just minutes, proving how volatile the energy market can be.
What Happens to the Pricemax Deposit of $250.00?
The deposit is applied directly to your account and credited toward your first oil delivery after March.
What Happens if Oil Prices Fall During the Term of the Contract?
Customers on fixed-price plans will continue paying their locked-in rate until the contract expires—that’s the nature of the agreement.
However, customers who purchased Downside Protection may qualify for a price reduction if oil prices drop significantly during the contract term.
